Higher values indicate active autoimmune targeting of DNA, immune-complex formation, and complement activation. This can drive fatigue, fevers, joint pain, photosensitive rashes, mouth ulcers, and—in the kidneys—protein in the urine, swelling, and rising blood pressure (lupus nephritis).
