Why I joined Superpower

A letter on an elevated blood sugar result, a year of waiting to see if anything worked, and bringing Superpower to the workplace.

A couple of years ago, before I knew Superpower existed, a routine blood test showed my blood sugar was elevated. It caught me off guard. I think of myself as healthy. I work out, I do a lot of cardio, I'm a pickleball addict and I eat well. I'd spent years working at Headspace, so wellness was literally part of my job. I felt like I was doing all the right things.

My doctor's advice was reasonable for the time we had: keep an eye on it, keep exercising, watch my sugar and hope it didn't go up.

"Keep an eye on it" felt like waiting for something to happen. I wanted to be proactive, but I didn't know what more to do. I started walking after meals and changed my diet. Then I waited a full year for my next physical to find out whether any of it had worked.

It did, sort of. My levels didn't go up. But flat isn't the goal.

Looking back, my biggest problem was access to information. One test a year and a short appointment can't tell you which changes are working or what to try next. I needed a baseline, a way to keep monitoring, all my data in one place and something to help connect the dots. That's what drew me to Superpower.

My situation isn't unusual, but most people don't have hours to spend researching. They hear "keep an eye on it" and move on with their lives. That's why I'm excited to join the enterprise team. Bringing Superpower to people as a workplace benefit means the next person who gets a result like mine doesn't have to figure it out alone.

My next personal goal is simple. Bring that number down, with Superpower's help.
