About the Extended Metabolic Health Panel

This add-on layers extra metabolic markers onto your Baseline Blood Panel. Your metabolism is not one thing. It is a system of hormones and signals that determine how your body handles energy: how efficiently you burn fat, how you respond to food, and whether your blood sugar stays stable or swings unpredictably through the day.

Standard metabolic panels check blood sugar and maybe HbA1c. This add-on goes deeper, measuring the hormonal layer that regulates fat storage, appetite, and insulin sensitivity. These markers often shift years before changes appear on standard blood sugar tests.

1 in 3 U.S. adults has metabolic syndrome. Most don't know it, because the early signals don't show up on standard tests.

These markers map how your body regulates blood sugar, produces insulin, and signals hunger and fat storage: the system upstream of where standard blood work looks.

What standard blood sugar tests don't show

HbA1c measures your average blood glucose over the past three months. Fasting glucose gives a snapshot of blood sugar on a single morning. Both are useful core markers, and both measure the end result of a process that may have been developing long before it shows up.

Insulin resistance often begins with the pancreas overproducing insulin to compensate for cells that are becoming less responsive to it. Blood glucose can stay normal during this phase because the pancreas is working harder to keep it there. HbA1c and fasting glucose will not flag this compensated phase. Fasting insulin and C-peptide can.

Leptin and adiponectin add another dimension: how your fat tissue is functioning as a signaling organ. Adipose tissue is not passive storage. It secretes hormones that affect insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and appetite regulation. When these adipokine levels shift, they can reflect metabolic stress that standard glucose tests will not capture.

What this add-on measures

A single blood draw adds incremental metabolic markers on top of your Baseline Blood Panel.

Who benefits from testing

  • You have risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome or prediabetes (such as excess abdominal weight, elevated triglycerides, low HDL, or elevated blood pressure) and want a deeper read on your insulin status.
  • You have symptoms associated with insulin resistance, even though your fasting glucose and HbA1c are in the normal range. These symptoms include fatigue after meals, difficulty losing weight, strong carbohydrate cravings, or energy crashes.
  • You have been told you have PCOS, where insulin resistance is highly prevalent and a key factor in hormonal dysregulation.
  • You have a family history of type 2 diabetes or metabolic syndrome and want to understand your metabolic trajectory earlier rather than later.
  • Your body seems to handle food and energy differently than it used to, and you want to understand why.
  • You are actively trying to lose weight without success and want to understand whether leptin resistance or elevated insulin may be contributing.
  • You track your health proactively and want a metabolic baseline that goes beyond standard glucose testing.

What your results reveal

Whether your metabolism is working with you or against you, and where your markers may indicate something to look into. If a hormone marker is shifted, you'll see which one. If insulin resistance is developing, you may detect early signs of it well before it would surface on standard glucose tests. This changes your approach from generic advice to targeted action.

Your results show a measured level for each marker, alongside reference ranges, so you can see at a glance which are within range and which are elevated or suppressed. Because your Baseline panel measures fasting glucose, a HOMA-IR insulin-resistance index can be calculated when both your fasting insulin and fasting glucose values are present, an index associated with insulin resistance rather than a diagnosis of it.

Your Superpower care team and AI-powered concierge can help you interpret the full picture, including how your insulin dynamics relate to the glucose, lipid, and inflammatory markers in the rest of your panel, and translate each result into plain-language next steps.

Reference ranges vary by lab and individual. Your Superpower care team and your provider will interpret your specific result in context.

How it works

  1. Add to your Superpower order. The Extended Metabolic Health Panel layers onto your Baseline Blood Panel. No doctor's visit required.
  2. Get your blood drawn. At a local clinic near you, or with an optional at-home phlebotomist visit (+$119).
  3. Review your results in your Superpower dashboard, alongside your full panel data, with your care team or AI-powered concierge available to walk you through them. Most results are ready within 10 days.

Biomarkers tested

Adiponectin is a protein hormone (also called an adipokine) that is mainly secreted by fat cells, but it is also produced in smaller amounts by muscle and the lining of blood vessels.
