Key benefits of Perchlorate (PERC) testing

  • Thyroid-disruptor exposure tracking
  • drinking water and produce contamination assessment

What is Perchlorate (PERC)?

Perchlorate is an inorganic anion found naturally in some environments and as a byproduct of rocket fuel, explosives, and industrial processes. It appears in some produce and drinking water supplies. Measured directly in urine via LC-MS/MS.

Why is Perchlorate (PERC) important?

Perchlorate competitively inhibits thyroid iodide uptake, potentially interfering with thyroid hormone synthesis. It is one of the few environmental chemicals with a well-established mechanism of thyroid interference - particularly relevant for members interested in tracking environmental thyroid disruptor exposure.

What insights will I get?

Your perchlorate level may reflect your drinking water quality, consumption of leafy vegetables grown in perchlorate-containing soil, or proximity to industrial sites. If elevated and you have thyroid health goals, discuss this finding with your Superpower care team.

Method: LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry) with creatinine normalization by Jaffe Reaction (CLIA 17D0919496); not cleared or approved by the FDA. Results reported in µg/g creatinine. Not a stand-alone diagnosis; should be interpreted in clinical context.
